North Hero - Grand Isle Drawbridge - 6/3/2022
Traffic Impact

US Route 2 at the temporary drawbridge is open to two lanes of traffic. The contractor is working during the day from 6:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Saturday. They are also working a night shift from 5:30 PM to 4:00 AM, Monday through Friday, and 3:00 PM to midnight on Saturdays. Night work is planned to continue through May 15th.

The temporary bridge has a speed limit of 25 mph. There are tight curves approaching the temporary bridge, and trucks are advised to reduce speed to 15 mph. Bicycles should use caution while crossing the bridge.

The work zone speed limit is enforced, and individuals have been ticketed for excessive speeding. Obeying the speed limit is extremely important for everyone's safety.

Notice to Mariners

During the construction one leaf will remain closed reducing the horizontal clearance through the bridge to 40 feet. Due to the reduction only one way traffic through the bridge will be permitted. A traffic control vessel will be on-scene to ensure vessel meeting and overtaking situations are avoided while approaching and transiting through the bridge. Mariners are advised to contact the bridge tender for transit instructions via Channel 13 or by calling (802) 372-4360.

Mariners are advised to plan their transits accordingly and exercise caution when transiting the area. Chart 14781 LNM 21/22 (CGD1)

Construction Activities

On the west side of the existing bridge, the contractor is installing formwork and reinforcing steel for the abutment that will support the approach span of the bridge. This work will continue over the next few weeks.

On the east side of the existing bridge, the contractor finished setting and leveling the grid deck panels. They are also installing the reinforcing steel for the curbs on the bascule span. Once this work is complete, the contractor will place the concrete deck for the bascule span of the bridge. This work will continue over the next few weeks.

South Hero Intersection Improvement Project - 7/11/2022
Traffic Shift - U.S. Route 2 onto Temporary On-Site Detour in South Hero

South Hero - Starting TOMORROW, Monday, July 11, motorists should expect one lane with alternating one-way traffic on U.S. Route 2 (U.S. 2) between Vermont Route 314 (VT 314) and the access driveway to 510 U.S. 2. Starting TOMORROW, Monday, July 11, after noon, motorists will be shifted to the temporary roadway located to the east of U.S. 2 between VT 314 and 510 U.S. 2.

U.S. 2 will be reduced to one lane prior to the traffic shift to allow crews to install guardrail along the temporary roadway and the traffic barrier along U.S. 2 that will divert traffic on and off the on-site detour. Once the guardrail and traffic barrier are installed, crews will shift traffic onto the on-site detour which will allow for two lanes of traffic to be maintained while that section of the U.S. 2 is closed. The traffic shift will remain in place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week while crews install the remaining section of the culvert.

Flaggers will be present to assist motorists through the work zone. Motorists should expect delays. Motorists are reminded to stay alert and slow down through the work zone.
