New Changes for You and Your Community

Act 181 of 2024 made several changes to the section of Vermont State Statute that directs the duties of Regional Planning Commission (24VSA §4345a) and the content of Regional Plans (24VSA §4348a). NRPC is updating the plan to reflect these changes.

These changes include:

Statewide standards for regional future land use maps, including mapping villages, downtowns and neighborhoods.
Villages, downtowns and neighborhoods mapped in the Regional Plan are entered into the State’s Designation Program receiving tax credits and other incentives for revitalization and development.
With local approval, Act 250 permits are not required for housing projects in villages, downtowns and neighborhoods mapped in the Regional Plan.
NRPC must set a target for the number of new homes needed by 2030 and 2050 for each municipality.
The Regional Plan helps take care of our farms, forests, land and water resources while also planning for building homes and supporting new and existing businesses.
